TIFFIN -- Despite 21 points from
Mya Jones and a double-double by
Tori See, the Heidelberg University Women's Basketball team fell to Muskingum University, 101-72. The Muskies used a strong third quarter to pull away from the Student Princes.
Jones scored 10 of her 21 points on second-chance points, cleaning up in the paint.
Brenna Williams had 14 points off the bench and See had 12.
The Muskies led wire-to-wire, but Heidelberg stayed close throughout the opening half. Muskingum was 3-for-15 from long range in the first half, but was 12 of 15 from the line. Heidelberg stayed tight with solid rebounding. HU hit three of five from beyond the arc in the second quarter.
Muskingum led by three after one and by five, 41-36, at halftime.
In the third, the visitors were 10-of-18 from the floor and a perfect 10-for-10 from the line. Muskingum's lead waxed and waned in the third as the scrappy Heidelberg players fought valiantly -- but the Muskies were relentless on offense and made their open looks.
Heidelberg won the battle on the glass, outrebounding Muskingum, 48-44. See had 11 boards, Mizeres had nine and Jones finished with eight.
The Student Princes are back in action Saturday for a double-header at Muskingum. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. following the men's game.
