Biography
TIFFIN — Heidelberg College senior Richard Mahon (North Olmsted) was named to the 2004 Academic All-America Second Team. A chemistry/pre-med major, Mahon holds a 4.0 cumulative GPA and was one of the two OAC players to earn a spot on the team.
Head Coach Brian Haley commented: "Ricky personifies everything about Division III athletics, the total commitment to academic work and the total commitment to playing to the best of your ability. He has been a leader on this team not so much in what he has said but in what he does, he leads by example. He has shown us on and off the field that high expectations and work ethic bring rewards; a credit to him and his family and thoroughly deserved, the campus community will miss such a fine young man and Heidelberg should be very proud of his achievements."
After battling an early season injury, Mahon saw action in 10 games and started in six. Playing primarily as a defender, Mahon took four shots on the year. He played in 64 career games and started in 58 over four seasons. He scored two career goals and registered one assist. Mahon helped the Berg defense post seven shutouts in 2004 and 25 shutouts over his four years.
The Student Princes finished the year with a record of 9-8-1 giving Mahon and his fellow seniors a winning record in all four seasons played. Along with being a four-year starter, He served as team captain for two seasons.
In 2003, Mahon was named to the All-OAC, Academic All-OAC and Academic All-District Teams. He was also named to the 2004 Academic All-District First Team.
