Biography
Tiffin, Ohio – May 31, 2006 – Senior first baseman / pitcher Jenny Coletta (Arlington, Ohio / Arlington) of the Heidelberg College softball team has distinguished herself in the classroom as well as on the playing field as she has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Coletta is a two-time member of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV First Team. She has also been named to the Ohio Athletic Conference All-Academic First Team in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
Coletta boosts an overall grade point average of 4.00 while majoring in political science. Her next educational plans include attending the University of Toledo Law School.
On the softball diamond, Coletta helped lead the Berg to its best season since 1999 finishing with an overall record of 15-25. Heidelberg swept two Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheaders this season, which marks the first time that the Berg has even swept one league doubleheader since the 2001 season.
Statistically, Coletta finished the season ranking in the top-five on the team in batting average (.255), hits (36), runs scored (19) and RBI (14).
The Academic All-America Teams are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. To be eligible, a student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
