Biography

TIFFIN, Ohio—Heidelberg University senior offensive tackle Derrick Arbogast (Tiffin/Calvert) and junior linebacker Craig Sykes (Centerburg) were selected to the Capital One/College Sports Information Directors of America Division III Academic All-America first team, announced this week by CoSIDA. The honor comes one month following their selection to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District VII first team and one week following their selection to the Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference football team.

Arbogast, a two-time All-OAC performer, is an education major who carries a 3.91 grade-point-average. In 2011, Arbogast anchored an offensive line that paved the way for 4,572 yards of total offense—just 26 yards shy of the single-season school record set a year ago—on a team that averaged 35.4 points per game and helped sophomore All-North Region running back Germany Woods (Cleveland/Lakewood St. Edward) to a school single-season record 1,421 rushing yards.

Sykes, a biology/Spanish double major with a 3.88 GPA, led the team and was seventh in the league with 88 tackles, tallied 10 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks, forced two fumbles and recovered another, and tied for third in the league with four interceptions. In 30 career games, Sykes has tallied 177 tackles, 15.5 TFL, 7.0 sacks, four INTs, and has forced four fumbles and recovered two loose balls. He was also an honorable mention All-OAC pick this season.

In 2011, Heidelberg finished 8-2 overall—the school's best record since 1993—and in a tie for second place in the league standings with a 7-2 OAC mark.

All Academic All-Americans were first-team all-district selections within their school's respective district. To be nominated, student-athletes must have a cumulative 3.30 GPA.
