ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Despite four in double figures, the Heidelberg University Men's Basketball team lost to No. 9 Mount Union, 85-67. The Purple Raiders, looking to avenge their loss to the Student Princes in Tiffin in January, started strong and never cooled.
Marcos Vazquez and
Trey Killens both had 13 points, while
Brady Bosma had 11 and
Jarveil Gainey had 10.
Mount Union shot 46% from the floor in the first half, hitting six 3-pointers. Conversely, Heidelberg shot 20% from the floor. The result was a 50-26 lead at intermission for the hosts.
The Student Princes went on a 7-0 with six minutes left to play -- a run that included a dunk and layup from
Abba Lawal. The run cut the 'Berg deficit to 17, but the Student Princes would get no closer.
Kevin Moore had 19 points for the Purple Raiders. Gainey and Killens led HU with seven boards apiece.
Heidelberg will look to right the ship in Marietta on Saturday. The women's game will start at 1 p.m., with the men's game to follow.
