New Concord, Ohio — The Heidelberg University Men's Basketball team battled for 40 minutes but came up short in a hard-fought 95-86 road loss to Muskingum on Saturday afternoon.
The Student Princes trailed by 11 at the half but responded with a strong second half, shooting 56.3 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from three to keep the game within reach down the stretch.
The Berg placed five players in double figures, led by
Brady Bosma, who scored a team-high 19 points on an efficient 7-for-10 shooting, while also pulling down seven rebounds.
Trey Killens followed with 17 points, knocking down three triples and adding seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals in a complete all-around effort.
Marcos Vazquez contributed 16 points and paced the offense with six assists, while
Markell Johnson-Nichols added 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Off the bench,
Jarveil Gainey provided a spark with 14 points, including a momentum-shifting fast-break dunk in the second half.
The Student Princes erased multiple deficits in the second half and briefly grabbed the lead with under seven minutes remaining, highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers from Killens and Bosma. However, Muskingum answered with timely shooting down the stretch to secure the win.
Heidelberg finished the afternoon shooting 47.7 percent from the field and recorded 36 points in the paint and 15 fast-break points, showcasing an aggressive offensive approach.
The Student Princes are back in action Saturday, February 7 for a double-header against Otterbein in Seiberling Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
