Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Sharpshooting Student Princes overwhelm Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio -- No comebacks necessary.

The Heidelberg University Men's Basketball team played a complete 40 minutes of basketball, leading wire-to-wire in a 91-78 road win at Capital University on Saturday.

Markell Johnson-Nichols led all scorers with 24 points on a nearly flawless night shooting. He was seven-of-eight from the floor and six-of-six at the line -- with his only miss coming on one of his five 3-point attempts.

Jarveil Gainey's strong season as the sixth man continued with a 20 point effort. He was nearly flawless, as well, missing just two 3-pointers. He added a team-best eight rebounds.

Riley Gossom, who put HU ahead to stay with a 3-pointer on the 'Berg's opening possession, poured in 19 points.

By the second media timeout, the Student Princes had built up a 25-13 advantage over the Comets. The lead blossomed to as many as 21 in the first half.

In the second half, Heidelberg maintained its stranglehold on the game -- even as Head Coach Mike Summey subbed out his starters.  The bench-bunch outscored Capital by a 25-12 margin.

Marcos Vazquez had a team-high eight assists to go along with eight points. Johnson-Nichols, the only player in the OAC in the top 10 for scoring, rebounding, and assists, dished up seven assists.

Heidelberg has won 10 straight over Capital.

The Student Princes host No. 4 Mount Union on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
