TIFFIN -- Heidelberg University Men's Soccer Head Coach
Michael Wright earned his first career victory after his Student Princes knocked off the Earlham Quakers, 1-0, on Saturday. The Berg scored early, then held on the rest of the way.
"I'm just so happy for the guys," said Wright. "For as hard as they have worked, and for as cohesive as they have been through the early part of the season, getting a result like this is a huge boost."
Heidelberg (1-3) took the lead off a corner kick.
Kaiden Reed sent an in-swinging service into the middle of the penalty area. After a bounce and a deflection, freshman
Evan Johnston put it in the net for his first collegiate goal. The tally came at exactly the 1:00 mark.
For there, it was a matter of holding on. Earlham (1-2) controlled a majority of possession throughout the remainder of the game, but failed to find the equalizer.
In his first collegiate start, goalkeeper
Collin Biehler kept a clean sheet, highlighted by two spectacular saves in the second half. In all, he stopped four shots.
Heidelberg is back in action on Wednesday at Wooster. The match is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
