TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University Volleyball team opened up their home slate with a 3-1 victory over Ohio Wesleyan on Orange Crush night inside Seiberling Gymnasium on Wednesday. The victory avenged an early-season loss at the hands of the Battling Bishops in Sandusky.
After winning the first two sets, Heidelberg had one crack at a match point in the third. Forced into the fourth, the Student Princes rallied for a win in the fourth.
Heidelberg, now on a seven-match heater, won on Wednesday -- 25-17, 25-16, 24-26, 25-23.
The Student Princes dominated play at the net, holding a 12-4 edge in total blocks.
Kaitlyn Uffman had a team-high six blocks.
Sophia Simon led the offense, amassing 10 kills without an error. Freshman
Emma Jones hit .389 and picked up nine kills. Uffman hit .412 and eight kills.
In the fourth set, Heidelberg trailed 20-16. Out of a time out, an OWU service error ignited a fevered 'Berg rally. HU scored nine of the final 12 points -- aided by two additional service errors. Fittingly, Simon capped the match with a kill.
Heidelberg improved to 8-2 overall, Ohio Wesleyan slipped to 3-4.
The Student Princes are back in action on Saturday, traveling to Earlham College for a pair of matches. The Berg squares off with Denison at 1 p.m. and the host Quakers at 3 p.m.
