Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

VB wins three at GLCO

SANDUSKY, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University Volleyball team concluded the Great Lakes Cross Over with three wins in five game -- defeating Manchester, Salem, and Concordia-Chicago, and falling to Allegheny and Ohio Wesleyan.

On the weekend, the offense was paced by Sophia Simon and Kaitlyn Uffman. Simon had 41 kills and hit .241 while Uffman tallied 40 kills and hit .235.

Maddie Reed dished up 75 assists and led the team with eight aces. Olivia Miller added 60 assists.

Defensively, libero Grace Dohanyos picked up 94 digs in 17 sets to anchor the back line.

At the net, Simon had a team-high 18 blocks while Uffman and Gabby Wolfe added 15 and 13.

Against Allegheny, a 3-0 loss, HU came out sluggish in the first set, but played stronger in the second set, which ended in a 27-25 loss. The defeat took the wind out of the HU sails, resulting in a 25-17 loss in the third.

Heidelberg rebounded with a 3-1 win over Manchester in Friday's second game. The Berg edged out the Spartans in the first, second and fourth sets, winning 25-23, 26-24, 19-25, 25-23.  Simon had 13 kills and Miller had 18 assists.

Ohio Wesleyan handled HU in the third match on Friday, winning in three sets.  Freshman Cassandra Bower made her debut and finished with 10 assists.

Bright and early on Saturday morning, the Tricolor upended Salem College out of North Carolina, 25-16, 25-17, 23-25, 25-7.  Uffman hit .391 en route to 13 kills. She added seven blocks.

HU closed the weekend with a sweep of Concordia-Chicago, 25-23, 25-23, 25-9. Perhaps the Cougars had their minds on Millenium Force, Top Thrill 2 and Siren's Curse in the third set, but Heidelberg attacked at a blistering .591 in the frame.  Sophomore Addyson McCallister had six kills against CUC and finished with 13 on Saturday.

Heidelberg is back in action next weekend at the Case Western Reserve Quad. Like all nine schools in the Ohio Athletic Conference, CWRU and the UAA members are also part of the FloSports network.
