TIFFIN -- The season opening weekend for the Heidelberg University Men's Soccer team continued on Saturday with a match against Transylvania at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex. Though the Pioneers escaped with a 3-0 win in a physical contest, Heidelberg looked strong for long stretches of the game.
The Pioneers scored twice in quick succession late in the first half, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. The visitors added another goal in the closing minutes.
Heidelberg had three shots in each half, with
Nate Eagan tallying two.
Mikael Paulson was active in goal, making 13 saves. Transy levied 27 during the game.
Prior to the contest, Heidelberg Men's Soccer alumni gathered at Hidden Valley to remember Dustin Pitts. Pitts, who passed away in 2018, was an All-OAC honoree in 2000.
The Student Princes return to action on Wednesday at Hiram. Gametime is slated for 7 p.m.
