T&F starts OACs; Wachtman second in long jump

WILMINGTON -- After the first day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Heidelberg University elbowed its way (and was elbowed) into sixth place on the women's side and eighth place on the men's side. Thursday was highlighted by Lexi Wachtman's All-OAC performance in the long jump.  

Highlights:

Women's Long Jump - Lexi Wachtman was the runner up in the long jump, with her best mark coming in her fifth attempt. She leapt 5.31m (17-5.25) to nab her second All-OAC honor of her career. Wachtman was third in the long jump last season.

Women's Javelin - Ella Jacobs took sixth with a distance of 34.39m (112-10). The mark came on her third attempt

Women's Pole Vault - Program record holder Mackenzie Murray cleared the bar on her third attempt at 3.18m (10-5.25), a vault that placed her seventh overall. 

Women's 4x800m Relay - Despite Marietta's attempt to box out near the finish line, Heidelberg was seventh in the event, running a 10:34.30. The Pioneers were disqualified. 

Men's 4x800m Relay - There were no shenanigans in men's 4x8, with Heidelberg placing seventh. HU clocked an 8:21.72.  

Men's Long Jump - Travis Bolden Jr. was eighth with a best mark of 6.21m (20-4.5), which came on his third attempt.

Qualifying for Friday:

Women's 100m Dash: Brianna Braatz qualified fourth with a time of 12.53. 
Women's 200m Dash: Braatz is seventh, clocking a 25.91.


Action resumes on Friday, with field events commencing at 11 a.m. and running events starting at 3 p.m.
