ALLIANCE -- The Heidelberg University Wrestling team capped the Ohio Athletic Conference slate with a resounding 42-8 victory on the road, walloping host Mount Union. The Student Princes improved to 7-10 overall, 3-4 in the OAC.
Heidelberg won eight of 10 weight classes, picking up bonus points in seven bouts.
Lee Woods started the evening at 125 with an emphatic pin of Camryn Mitchell in the second period, setting the tone for a fantastic night for the Tricolor.
At 133,
Maddox Cade took the lead with a takedown in the final minute of the first period. Still up 3-0 in the third, Cade added a reversal to win, 5-0.
With his team ahead 9-4 at 149,
Drew Miller trailed after the first, 4-3. Undeterred, Miller controlled the final two frames. Riding his opponent for the entirety of the second, he escaped early in the third, then immediately took the lead with a takedown. Miller added several stalling points and won, 12-4. The major decision put HU ahead 13-4.
Anthony Grecol needed just 20 seconds in the second period to secure a tech fall at 157, winning 16-1.
Following intermission,
Travis Richardson took care of Jake Starkey at 165. Richardson earned the pin -- first of three in a row for the Student Princes -- with nine seconds left in the first. The six-pointer gave HU a 24-4 lead.
Carter Mock grabbed the lead with an early takedown and eventually worked a pin, coming at the 1:48 mark.
Not to be outdone,
Owen Frizzell needed a mere 49 seconds to nab the pin at 184, putting Heidelberg ahead 36-4.
Though the Purple Raiders won at 197,
Khelei Tillman capped the romp with a first-period pin at 285.
HU is back in action on Feb. 15 at the Mid-States Invitational, hosted by Manchester.
