Box Score WILMINGTON, Ohio — The Heidelberg Men's Basketball team battled through a high-energy conference opener on Saturday, pulling away late to earn a hard-fought 87–82 victory at Wilmington. The Quakers led by as many as 13 in the second half, but the resilient Student Princes rallied — picking up their third straight win when trailing by 10+.
Markell Johnson-Nichols powered The Berg with 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists, delivering one of his most complete performances of the season.
Brady Bosma added 19 points, knocking down five threes, while
Marcos Vazquez chipped in 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists, providing timely scoring bursts that steadied Heidelberg during the comeback.
Jarveil Gainey (16 points) and
Riley Gossom (9 points, 7 rebounds) supplied key contributions on both ends as the Princes out-executed the Quakers down the stretch.
Heidelberg controlled the final minutes with composed offense, clutch free throws, and disciplined defense — an encouraging formula as OAC play gets underway. The Berg shot 46% from the field, hit 11 threes, and outrebounded Wilmington 37–34, all while committing just four turnovers in the second half.
With the win, the Student Princes improve to 5–3 overall (1–0 OAC). They'll return to action next weekend at Otterbein.
