Volleyball falls to Muskies

NEW CONCORD -- The No. 6 seed Heidelberg University Volleyball team bowed out of the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament and closed out their season in heartbreaking fashion, rallying from a 2-0 deficit, only to stumble late in the fifth. No. 3 seed Muskingum won, 25-18, 25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 16-14, advancing to the semifinals of the tournament.

Kaitlyn Uffman led the Student Princes with 19 kills, hitting an impressive .462 in her final appearance for the Tricolor. Sophia Simon added eight while Anneliese Shriber and Gabby Wolfe tallied seven.

Grace Dohanyos finished the day with 24 digs, while Reagan Davis notched 16. Heidelberg had nine blocks, with Simon getting in on four of them.

HU had 14 aces, led by Allison Cook's five.

The Muskies won the first two sets with relative ease, but with their backs against the wall, Heidelberg returned the favor in the third and fourth.

The Student Princes raced out to an 8-2 lead in the fifth, but the Muskies responded. Down 10-5, the hosts rattled off five in a row to tie the match. That run came as part of a larger 9-1 spurt that pushed HU to the brink. Showing resolve, the Student Princes staved off three match points with two kills from Uffman and a block by Wolfe and Maddie Reed

Tied at 14, Muskingum won the match with kills on the next two points.

Muskingum advances, and will face No. 2 seed Marietta on Thursday. Heidelberg ended the season with a 15-16 record.
