TIFFIN -- In action for the first time in the new year, the Heidelberg University Wrestling team was 1-1 in varsity duals inside Seiberling Gymnasium on Saturday. The Student Princes fell to Trine before upending Thomas More College.
An injury default win for
David Gelman and a tech fall by
Drew Miller put Heidelberg ahead, 11-9, after four weights against Trine. The Thunder took the next three before
Owen Frizzell pinned his opponent at 184. Trine won the final two weights, beating Heidelberg for the second time this season, 36-17.
Undeterred, Heidelberg responded with a win against Division II Thomas More. Gelman and Miller won again, but HU trailed 12-9 after 149.
Tristan Craddock put HU up with a 14-1 major decision at 157 before
Carter Mock pinned his guy at 165. Another pin for Frizzell at 184 put The Berg ahead, 25-18. The Saints won at 197, but forfeited 285 -- giving Heidelberg a 31-21 victory.
Heidelberg hosts Muskingum on Tuesday, marking the team's annual Berg Raw home dual. At halftime of the 7 p.m. match, Illustrious Unchained Wrestling Academy -- located in nearby Fostoria -- will be showcasing their talents.
