PLATTEVILLE, Wisc. -- The Heidelberg University Men's Basketball team was upended on the road by UW-Platteville on Saturday night, 87-75. The Student Princes slipped to 3-3 on the season.
Eric Panning had 24 points and eight rebounds, shooting 6-for-11 from the floor and 12-for-14 from the line.
Elijah Harden added 15 points off the bench, getting to the line nine times, making seven.
Zane Leitwein had 13 points and eight boards before fouling out.
Platteville (5-1) built a 14-point lead over the first 12 minutes of action, and the Student Princes spent the rest of the half battling back. Having whittled the deficit down to as small as five, HU trailed at the break, 38-31.
Early in the second half, back-to-back 3-pointers by
Carter Pleiman and
Markell Johnson-Nichols brought Heidelberg to within four at 41-37. The Pioneers went on a 16-3 run, pushing their lead out to 17.
From there, Heidelberg was unable to get the disadvantage under 10.
Heidelberg returns to action on Wednesday, kicking off Ohio Athletic Conference action at Capital. Tipoff in Bexley is scheduled for 7 p.m.
