SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Heidelberg University volleyball team closed out their 2024 campaign in the HCAC/OAC crossover on Friday afternoon. Facing tough competitors, Wittenberg and Denison, they finished 1-1 on the day. The Berg finished the season with a 14-15 record.Â
GAME ONE: Heidelberg - 3, Denison - 0
In game one, Heidelberg took care of business, sweeping Denison with scores of 25-18, 25-20, and 25-18. In the first match,
Riley Tople and
Rylee Ritzhaupt lead the Berg with nine and six kills respectively.
Maddie Reed paced the squad with 15 assists. Defensively,
Grace Smith led both teams with 18 digs, while
Gabby Wolfe and
Riley Tople contributed three blocks a piece.Â

GAME TWO: Heidelberg - 2, Wittenberg - 3
Game two was a Battle of the Bergs, with hosts Wittenberg winning in five sets. Heidelberg took two of the first three sets before falling in the final two, 25-19, 21-25, 26-24, 21-25 and 15-17.
Grace Porter and
Riley Tople led The Berg in kills with ten a piece,
Maddie Reed added two aces and 17 assists.
Olivia Miller also added 17 assists in the match. Defensively,
Grace Smith and
Reagan Davis combined for 40 digs, while
Gabby Wolfe and
Riley Tople combined for ten blocks.Â
