Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MBB falls at Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio – Shooting woes plagued the Heidelberg University Men's Basketball team in a 71-65 setback at Ohio Northern on Wednesday. The loss was HU's third in their last four games.

Jashun Cobb had a team-high 14 points, one of two in double figures for The Berg.

The Student Princes (12-8, 8-5) used a 14-0 run to climb out of an early hole, taking a 19-14 advantage. Both sides jostled for momentum, exchanging the lead several times. The Polar Bears went on a 7-0 run over the final 68 seconds of the half and led, 34-28.

Included in the first half was a strange play involving HU's Amil Jenkins. An attempted entry pass to Panning in the paint went through the hoop. The errant basket baffled the officials, who -- after a lengthy discussion -- ruled no basket, and gave the ball back to Heidelberg.

An early 4-0 run for the Student Princes knotted the game in the second half -- setting the stage for a back-and-forth period. Heidelberg managed to take a modest four-point lead with a Jashun Cobb layup that put the visitors up 59-55.

Ohio Northern (10-10, 5-8) answered with a 10-0 spurt that came as part of a 16-6 game-closing run. Heidelberg was 3-of-8 from the floor and 0-for-2 at the line in the final 4:32.

The Student Princes shot 3-for-14 from beyond the arc.

Zane Leitwein had 12 points and Eric Panning finished with nine points and nine rebounds.

The Heidelberg men's team hits the road again on Saturday as they head to Muskingum University (5-15, 1-12 OAC) for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
