TIFFIN, Ohio -- On Halloween night, the Heidelberg Volleyball team trick-or-treated fans to a four-set victory over visiting Oberlin College. The treats? Big wins in the first, third and fourth sets. The trick? Digging too deep of a hole to climb out of in the second. The result was a 25-14, 22-25, 25-10, 25-12 win on Senior Night.
Prior to the game, Heidelberg honored seniors
Cait Weirich,
Nicole Thomas,
Lexi Evak,
Bridgette Burrus, and
Anamya Truex for their contributions to the program and the university.
A 7-0 run in the first set turned a two-point deficit into a five point lead for the Student Princes. Later, another 7-0 run helped Heidelberg seize total control of the set, which they capped with kills from
Grace Porter and Truex.
The Yeowomen built a commanding advantage in the second set, leading by as many as seven on multiple occasions before HU began to chip away. Though the Tricolor closed to within one, Oberlin held on for the win to even the match.
Heidelberg walloped Oberlin in the third, attacking at a .500 clip as a team. The hosts started with a 4-0 run and later added an 8-0 jaunt.
Kaitlyn Uffman ended it with an emphatic kill.
Riding the momentum, the Student Princes built an early lead in the fourth and cruised to victory.
Riley Tople picked up a team-high 11 kills on the night, hitting .364. Porter was close behind with nine while Evak had eight.
Maddie Reed picked up 20 assists while Burrus added 12.
Thomas had 13 digs, three more than
Grace Dohanyos's 10.
At the net, Truex and Evak were a part of seven and five blocks, respectively.
As a team, Heidelberg racked up 15 aces, with Reed and Thomas each notching four. HU out-blocked the Yeowomen, 12-3. HU hit .308 while Oberlin hit .121.
