WESTERVILLE -- In a gymnasium full of parents grateful their child chose an indoor sport, the Heidelberg University Volleyball team split a tri-match at Otterbein University on Saturday. The Berg fell to Otterbein, 3-0, in a conference match, then swept Kenyon in a non-conference affair.
Heidelberg moved to 14-11 overall, 2-3 in the OAC.
OTTERBEIN 3 HEIDELBERG 0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-16)
Heidelberg fell behind early in the first set but used an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to one at 16-15. Otterbein responded quickly and took four of the next five points. The Student Princes were unable to mount a comeback.
HU held a brief 6-4 lead in the second, but the hosts pummeled Heidelberg the rest of the way.
Otterbein held a comfortable lead throughout the third set.
HEIDELBERG 3 KENYON 0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-18)
The Owls led 11-6 in the opening set, but HU responded with a 10-2 run and led 16-13. Ahead 19-17, HU took the last six points.
Nursing a modest 14-11 lead, the Student Princes closed out the second with an 11-4 run.
The Berg used a 5-0 in the middle of the third set to provide some separation, then cruised to the victory.
Heidelberg hit .298 as a team, paced by an eight-kill effort by
Riley Tople.
Kaitlyn Uffman hit .700, going 7-for-10 without an error.
Grace Porter also added seven kills in the win.
Bridgette Burrus notched 18 assists.
