SANDUSKY -- The Heidelberg University wrestling team enjoyed success as host of the annual Kalahari Duals. The Student Princes opened with a lopsided win over Manchester before falling to Concordia Moorhead and No. 14 Loras. Â HU went into the winter break with a thrilling win over Mount St. Joseph.
In varsity matches on the day,

TJ Rhamy had multiple wins.
In the opener, Heidelberg battered Manchester -- winning 47-4. The Spartans won the opening bout, but the Student Princes pounded their way through the remaining nine. Â

Alex Westbrook, and
Gabriel Martinez all picked up pins. Â
Against Concordia Moorhead, Heidelberg accepted a forfeit at 125 before falling in the next three matches. Â Down 18-6, the Student Princes would take four of the final six bouts from the Cobbers, including a pin from
TJ Rhamy. Â In the end, Concordia escaped with a 30-22 win. Â
Facing the No. 14 Loras, Heidelberg was overmatched. Â The Duhawks won nine of the 10 bouts, with Heidelberg's lone win coming via injury forfeit. Â
Mount St. Joseph sandwiched bonus points in between hard fought 'Berg wins by Renier and Buckmaster at 125 and 149. Â A win by Grecol at 157 cut the MSJ lead to 10-9 before the Lions added a pin. Â Rhamy scratched out a hard-fought 3-2 win at 174 before Medeiros put HU on top with a tech fall at 184. Â A major victory at 197 for MSJ put the Lions up three at 285. Â Martinez nearly stuck his opponent in the first period, but instead had to outlast Gary Powell. Â Martinez's 13-6 win knotted the match at 20, but HU was credited with the win based on criteria (six individual wins).
After the holidays, Heidelberg will return to action at the Waynesburg Invitational on Jan. 7. Â
