Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MBB gets 19 from Watkins and Hohman in win

TIFFIN -- With no classes this week because of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, the Heidelberg University Men's basketball team used the extra time to work on shooting.

It worked.

The Student Princes shot 47.1 from the floor and a blistering 51.4% from beyond the arc as they defeated the Albion Britons in a high-scoring affair, 92-76.  With the win, Heidelberg improved to 3-1 on the season.

Heidelberg had four double-figure scorers and knocked down 18 3-pointers in the game.  Tre Watkins and Seth Hohman led the way for the Berg, each totaling 19 points and five huge 3-pointers. Zane Leitwein was right behind them with 18 points of his own, also knocking in five 3-pointers. DJ Ferguson added 10 points.

The interconference matchup had no shortage of offense as the Britons jumped out to a quick 12-3 lead over the Student Princes with Albion's offense clicking early.  The run included six quick points by senior big man Ken Thomas who ended with a total of 18. It took an and-1 opportunity from Senior Seth Hohman to halt the run and the Berg never seemed to look back from then on.

Hanging their hat on their defense and forcing eight first-half Albion turnovers, the Student Princes went on a 10-0 run to capture the lead with Ferguson providing a huge spark off the bench adding 10 first half points.

The Britons (1-3) continued to fight, however, as their free-flowing offense generated plenty of great looks led by junior guard Fred Garland.  Garland led the Britons with a game-high 22 points.

After a bucket from guard Jonathan Armstead-Wilkerson at the midway point of the second half, the lead got down to eight. A timely 3-pointer by Seth Hohman halted the momentum and shut the door on a Britons comeback.

Though the Tricolor held only a narrow edge in rebounds (41-40), the hosts enjoyed a 17-6 edge in second-chance points.  The 'Berg bench outscored their Briton counterparts, 33-11.

The Student Princes will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 26.  HU travels to Ohio Wesleyan to take on the Battling Bishops in their last matchup before conference play begins. Tip-off is at 3 p.m.
