RESULTS: WILMINGTON | OTTERBEIN | MOUNT UNION
SEASON STATS

TIFFIN -- Thanks to a spirited rally in the finale, the Heidelberg University wrestling team swept the OAC Quad Duals on a snowy Sunday.  Heidelberg blanked Wilmington, 54-0, then beat up on Otterbein, 40-15.  Down 16-0 to Mount Union, the Student Princes battled back and won, 24-22.

Four wrestlers went 3-0 on the day -- Dwight Parker, Montavious Yearby, T.J. Rhamy, and Jace Grossman.

"This was the most exciting day for Heidelberg wrestling in quite some time," said Head Coach Tony Patrizi.  "I am so impressed with our tenacity and resilience on the mat, especially in the win over Mount."

HEIDELBERG 54   WILMINGTON 0
The Quakers forfeited the first two weight classes before HU rattled off five pins in a row.  Kyle Fanson started the party with a 49-second stick.  Dwight Parker used a reversal early in the second to pick up his pin.  Carson Pottenger (0:58), Yearby (1:37) and Rhamy (0:52) all picked up first period pins.

At 184, Nolan Hatten earned a hard-fought victory, beating Skyler Cowgill, 10-5.  Da'Veon Parker followed with a second period pin at 197.  Grossman sealed the shutout with an 11-8 win over Shadrach Brausch.

HEIDELBERG 40  OTTERBEIN 15
After picking up forfeit wins against Wilmington, Harrison Hadley and Nathan Demangeont opened with pins at 125 and 133.  Otterbein got on the board at 141, but Dwight Parker earned a 15-6 major decision over Nathan Leko.

Ahead 28-9 after six weights, Heidelberg closed the dual with three wins in four bouts -- all decided by pins.

HEIDELBERG 24  MOUNT UNION 22
It's not often that a wrestling coach cites a lost bout as the reason for a team victory.  But Patrizi, who was forced to shuffle his lineup because of injury, said just that.  Down 13-0 after 141, Patrizi called upon captain Jacob Horsch to wrestle at 149.

Horsch faced Mount's Luke Hernandez, known for his aggressive, high-tempo style.  Horsch withstood the Hernandez attack, but fell, 7-3.

"Only giving up three team points at 149 put us in a position to win," said Patrizi. "What Dwight and Tayy accomplished was critical, but Jacob made it happen for us."

Dwight Parker, among the nation's best at 149, bumped up to 157.  There, he pinned Jesse Wright in the second period.  Yearby followed with a quick 43-second pin of Kristopher Jones.
With his team only down four, Rhamy continued the Berg surge with a 6-2 win over Alex Carrother.

The Purple Raiders picked up a pin at 184, which set up a showdown at 197.  Both sides knew Mount would forfeit at 285, which set up the Da'Veon Parker/Warren Gentile dual as a winner-take-all battle.

After a scoreless first period, Gentile chose to start on the bottom and quickly escaped.  Parker muscled his way to two takedowns in the second -- with each eliciting a raucous cheer from the 'Berg faithful.  Ahead 4-2 to start the third, Parker escaped to go up 5-2.  Despite Gentile's desperation, Parker tacked on one more takedown in the final moments of the match.

Grossman happily took the forfeit at 285, giving HU the points necessary to topple Mount.

The win over the Purple Raiders was the first for Heidelberg since 2017.
