MATCH RESULTS | SEASON STATS
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- Still trying to get back to full strength, the Heidelberg University wrestling team lost an OAC dual on Tuesday night. The Student Princes traveled to John Carroll University, where they fell, 30-12.
Jace Grossman had the only pin for HU, while
Adam Medeiros and
Carson Pottenger picked up wins.
At 125,
Harrison Hadley held a 4-2 lead in the third period, but was saddled with a pair of stalling calls that tied the match. In the sudden victory overtime period, Kyle Murray notched a takedown to secure the win.
The win at 125 was the start of four straight wins for John Carroll, which took an 18-0 lead through 149.
Carson Pottenger (13-5, 3-0) put The Berg on the board at 157. He was aggressive throughout the bout and picked up an 8-2 win over Ryan Forrest. Pottenger took a 2-1 lead into the second, thanks to a takedown midway through the first. Forrest tied the match with an escape, but Pottenger used another mid-period two-pointer to retake the lead. Pottenger escaped early in the third, then tacked on another takedown.
John Carroll picked up wins at 165 and 174, taking a 26-3 lead.
At 184,
Adam Medeiros put points on the board with an 8-6 win. Tied at two at the start of the third, Medeiros opened with a reversal. Stefan Farian quickly escaped to get within one. With under 50 seconds to go, Medeiros picked up another takedown. Down 6-4 and facing a point for riding time in the waning seconds, Farian tallied a takedown and tried to quickly cut his opponent. Time, though, was on Medeiros's side. He won, and improved to 15-6 overall, 3-0 OAC.
Da'Veon Parker went to overtime at 197, tied at one. Parker appeared to have scored the sudden-victory takedown in front of the JCU bench, but play was whistled as the wrestlers were deemed to have gone out of the circle. Jesse Kantazar did manage a takedown 30 seconds later.
At 285,
Jace Grossman gave up an early takedown but recorded a reversal 15 seconds later. After a restart, Grossman continued to try to flip Connor Bizjak onto his back. He eventually accomplished the feat at the 2:14 mark of the first. Grossman improved to 7-1 overall, and won his first collegiate OAC match.
Heidelberg hosts a Quad Dual on Sunday in Seiberling Gymnasium Wilmington, Mount Union and Otterbein travel to Tiffin, with varsity action starting at 11 a.m. Tickets are on sale now, and fans are reminded that Heidelberg University will strictly enforce their mask mandate. No concessions will be available, and outside food, candy and beverages are not permitted inside the venue.
