Tiffin, OH – The Heidelberg University men's soccer team snapped a four-match skid with a convincing, 4-1, victory over the Albion College Britons on Saturday afternoon.
In the first half of a men's-women's doubleheader on the turf of Hoernemann Stadium, the Student Princes dominated the attacking play from the opening whistle. The Berg men took a 1-0 advantage, in the 16
th minute and never looked back.
Â
Following a handball in the box from an Albion defender,
Christopher Flores, stepped to the spot to take the penalty. He fired a shot down the middle, making the Briton's keeper miss to his right.
Â
The Berg doubled their lead in at the half-hour mark as
Ilyes Bouguetof tallied his first goal of the 2021 campaign. Bouguetof chased down a lackluster clearance from the Albion rearguard, and knocked a quality shot over Briton netminder Anton Favre who rushed off his line.
Â
The tri-color took a 2-0 lead into the half.
Â
Less than ten minutes into the second frame, the Britons would end Berg keeper
Sigurd Ilestad's hopes of a clean sheet. A foul called inside the Heidelberg penalty area, gave Albion's Carter Peek a chance from the spot. The Peek capitalized on the PK and cut the Berg lead in half, 2-1. Ilestad finished with four saves in the victory, elevating his season total to 34.
Â
The Student Princes answered in the 62
nd minute when
Rafael Bellucci Marin netted his third goal of the season with a stunning shot from distance. Minutes later,
Kelly Itito connected with
Isaac Wienen in front of the Albion net to make the Berg advantage, 4-1.
Â
Heidelberg kept the offensive pressure high as regulation drew to a close finishing with 17 shots, nine on goal, to the Britons eight shots, five of which were on target.
Â
The victory over the Britons moves the Heidelberg men back to .500 overall, 4-4, as they prepare for their final non-conference match against Adrian College on Tuesday, September 28.
