NEW CONCORD -- The Heidelberg University volleyball team was swept by Muskingum University in two 3-0 losses on Friday evening. The Muskies won game one 25-23, 25-12, 25-17, and took the final regular season contest of the season 25-15, 25-23, 25-15.
The Student Princes fell to 8-10 while the Muskies improved to 16-2.Â
Junior
Maddie Szawranskyj led the offense for the Student Princes with 20 kills on the evening. Heidelberg libero
Sarah Oney recorded 42 digs to lead the back row. The offense worked through Juliana Pena who set up with 27 assists in the doubleheader.Â
Heidelberg led late in the first set of the evening at 23-22, but a late run from the Muskies led to a win in the set. Muskingum won the two remaining sets with more dominance than the opener.Â
Szawranskyj led The Berg offensively with nine kills, Petitti scored six. Defensively, Oney had 19 digs.
Kelsey Custenborder recorded 13 setting assists in the first match.Â
Down 18-12 in the second set, Heidelberg scored an 8-0 run to take the lead in the set. Pena handled serving duties while the Student Princes earned four kills on the run.Â
Szawranskyj scored 11 kills in the second match and
Taylor Gimenez followed with seven. Oney recorded 23 digs and Pena led in assists with 16.Â
Heidelberg will compete in the OAC tournament next week beginning on Tuesday. The Student Princes will enter the tournament as the fifth seed and will travel to Marietta (6-10) for a 6 p.m. match.Â
