Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Berg earns 33-point win in Berea

BEREA -- The Heidelberg University men's basketball team opened up conference action in grand fashion, dismantling host Baldwin Wallace, 92-59.  The 33-point margin of victory was Heidelberg's best against BW since a 34--point win in 1976.

One of four in double figures for Heidelberg (5-1, 1-0 OAC), Emmanuel Perdue paced the Student Princes with 19 points.  Zane Leitwein hit four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points.  Tre Watkins had 13 points off the bench.  Seth Hohman, who finished with 10 points, was one of four players with four assists -- joining Dylan Woods and Isaiah Young.

Eric Panning drew a game-high eight rebounds.

The Student Princes trailed by four in the early going before embarking on a methodical attack. The key run was a 10-0 spurt midway through the period.

HU shot 54.1% from the floor and was 9-for-14 (64.3%) from beyond the arc in the first period.  Perdue was a perfect 3-for-3 from deep while Leitwein was 3-for-5.  HU led 52-31 at the half.

Heidelberg came back to earth in the second half, but not by much.  HU shot 42.5% after intermission and hit four more 3-pointers.

The Student Princes held a +10 edge in rebounding and outscored BW off the bench 44-18.

BW (4-2, 0-1 OAC) was led by Anthony Mazzeo's 15-point effort.

The win was HU's first 30+-point win since a 102-72 win versus Muskingum in 2016 and their largest since a 41-point blowout against Finlandia in 2012.

Heidelberg returns to action on Saturday in the second half of a women's/men's doubleheader at Mount Union.  The women's game was moved to a 4 p.m. tip to accommodate Mount's playoff football game.  The men's game will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's contest.
