Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Woods scores 20 in win over MSJ

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University men's basketball team used a second half surge to stay unbeaten.  The Student Princes upended host Mount St. Joseph, 82-68, winning both of their games in the Lauren Hill Tip Off Classic.

Dylan Woods led all scorers with 20 points on 6-of-9 from the floor (and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc).  Woods was one of four in double figures for HU, joining Emmanuel Perdue (14 points), Isaiah Young (13 points) and Treohn Watkins (10 points).

Heidelberg improved to 2-0 on the season while MSJ slipped to 2-1.

Mount St. Joseph used a 16-7 run in the first half to turn a one-point deficit into a 29-21 lead.  Heidelberg answered with a 10-3 run that included 3-pointers by Isaiah Young and Martone Cole.  The Lions led 39-25 at halftime.

Early in the second half, layups by Nakhi Taylor and  Seth Hohman knotted the game.  After the teams jostled back and forth for the lead, Woods went on a personal 9-2 run that changed the complexion of the game.  His outburst came as part of a massive 22-2 stretch that took up more than seven minutes of the second half.  During the run, MSJ committed eight turnovers and attempted just four shots.

Heidelberg led by as many as 18 in the second half.

The difference in the contest was in the turnovers.  The Lions committed twice as many as Heidelberg (16-8), and the Student Princes held a 20-5 edge in points off of turnovers.

The Student Princes host Bluffton University (0-1) on Wednesday.  The home opener is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in Seiberling Gymnasium.
