OHIO NORTHERN - 33 HEIDELBERG - 15
The Student Princes stumbled out of the gate, yielding a forfeit, a medical forfeit, a pin and a tech fall in the first four bouts.
Facing a 23-0 deficit, the Student Princes charged back. At 157,
Carson Pottenger took a 4-1 lead after the first period with a pair of takedowns. Following a scoreless second, HU's sophomore Texan added a pair of escapes and a takedown in the third period en route to a 9-3 victory over Schuyler Caprella..
Devin Miller continued the new-found HU momentum into his bout at 165 against Jordan Hardrick. Miller struck first with a takedown in the opening period and carried the 2-0 lead into the third period. There, he added another takedown and won, 4-0.
Trailing 23-6,
Jeremiah Slagle picked up bonus points at 174. Following a scoreless first period, Slagle tallied a reversal on Connor Kwiat and tacked on two back points. In the third, Slagle scored another takedown and added four more back points to earn an 8-0 major decision.
At 184, two-time All-American
Dylan Roth returned to competition in typical fashion. Three takedowns, an escape and four nearfall points gave Roth an 11-1 advantage after two periods. In the third, he finished off the tech fall with a takedown and four back points.
The Polar Bears would take the final two bouts, staving off any hope of a 'Berg comeback.
HEIDELBERG - 39 WILMINGTON - 6
The Quakers won the first and last bouts of the dual … but the rest belonged to The Berg.
Kyle Fanson picked up his first collegiate win and pin, sticking Jacob Scoville in the second period.
After a forfeit win for
Isaiah Bretz at 149, Pottenger pinned Adrian Salomone in the first period. The win gave HU an 18-3 lead.
At 165, Miller was down 4-1 in the opening frame, but tallied a reversal before the end of the first. In the second, Miller grabbed the lead with four back points. In the third, he sealed a 10-6 win with two escapes.
Slagle was all over Elijah Wood early in the first period before earning the pin in 2:43.
Roth made quick work of Skyler Cowgill, picking up a pin in 42 seconds.
At 197,
Aidan Belgiorno picked up six points with a forfeit win, closing out the scoring for HU.
