TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University wrestling team went 2-1 at the OAC Quad meet -- beating Muskingum (49-3) and Otterbein (26-20) before falling to Baldwin Wallace (31-6) in the familiar surroundings of Seiberling Gymnasium. On the day,
Hayden Bates and
Dylan Roth went unbeaten.
The Student Princes moved to 5-10 overall, 3-3 in the OAC.
Heidelberg made short work of Muskingum to open the day.
Harrison Hadley started the match with a major decision, followed by a pair of forfeits.
Dwight Parker picked up a major decision at 149 before
Tre Bogetich added a tech fall. Up 25-0, HU continued to roll in the second half of the match.
Devin Miller and
Jeremiah Slagle added pins before
Dylan Roth won by forfeit. The lone Muskingum win came in a hard-fought match at 197.
Eric Adkins put an exclamation mark on the 49-3 win with a pin over Marvis Hood at 285.
Hadley started off the Otterbein match with a bang -- sticking Chase Nelson in 58 seconds. The Cardinals took three points at 133, but HU's
David Ocasio used a late takedown to avoid a major decision at the hands of returning All-American Jackson Lakso. Up 6-3, Heidelberg took bonus points at 141 and 149.
Hayden Bates tech falled Santino DiSabato before
Slade Todd pinned Jacob Williams. Otterbein took three more points at 157 when Ryan Whitten beat Bogetich in overtime. Miller helped the Student Princes rebound, holding off a late comeback from Willy Plaisir for a 9-7 victory. After a Cardinals pin at 174, Roth pinned Corbin Bunsold in 2:14, giving HU a 14-point lead with two matches to play. Otterbein won the fina; two bouts, but Heidelberg held on for the 26-20 win.
In the day's finale, Baldwin Wallace won the first two matches with bonus points before Bates picked up an 11-6 win at 141. The Yellow Jackets responded by winning the next four bouts, taking a 24-3 into 184. There, Roth outlasted Doug Byrne, winning 13-10. The Yellow Jackets grabbed the last two bouts, picking up a 31-6 win.
In other action, BW defeated Otterbein and Muskingum. Otterbein upended Muskingum.
Heidelberg returns to action at the Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational next weekend.
