Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Third time's a charm for HUVB

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- After consecutive five-set losses to ranked teams as part of the Wittenberg Fall Classic, the Heidelberg University volleyball team finally emerged victorious.  HU upended host Wittenberg in four sets -- their first win over the Tigers since 2009.  After Friday's loss to No. 4 Berry, Heidelberg fell to No. 15 Wisconsin Whitewater before knocking off No. 14 Wittenberg.

For her efforts, Taylor Valentine was named to the all-tournament team.  Valentine had a team-high 40 kills over the three matches, tops on the team.  Amy Feczer added 29 kills and Jordann Gudorf tallied 25 with an attack percentage of .292.

Setters Anna McNabb and Julianna Peña were busy -- dishing up 73 and 53 assists, respectively.

Defensively, Feczer had nine blocks while Olivia Cristian and Mya Morris added seven.  Gudorf amassed six blocks.  Libero Sarah Oney had 67 digs on the weekend while Valentine had 53.  Peyton Miller added 28.

Heidelberg won the first two sets against Berry, but dropped the final three.  Adding to the heartbreak was a 26-24 loss in the third set, which would have sealed the match.  Berry won 16-25, 24-26, 26-24, 25-17, 15-11.

The script was flipped in the loss to Whitewater.  The Warhawks picked up the first two sets before the Student Princes battled back.  After taking the third and fourth sets, Heidelberg fell in the fifth.  The Warhawks were victorious -- 25-16, 25-17, 17-25, 15-25, 15-6.

In front of a home crowd, Heidelberg handled its business in the first two sets.  The Tigers rallied back to win the third set.  Rather than folding, Heidelberg emerged with a 25-17 victory.  The win snapped HU's seven-match losing streak to Wittenberg.

The win over Wittenberg was Heidelberg's second win over a ranked opponent this season -- following the season-opening win over No. 10 Aurora.

Heidelberg returns to action next weekend at the Hampton Inn River Hawk Classic in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.  The Student Princes battle Desales, Mary Washington and No. 23 Clarkson.
