Box Score

TIFFIN -- Antonio Demonte bagged his team-leading fourth goal of the season, but the Heidelberg University men's soccer team fell to Capital, 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

With the loss, Berg dropped to 4-5 (1-1) on the season. Capital improved to 8-2 (2-0).

In the ninth minute, Cory Gilbert received the ball on a throw in. He faced up goal and slid the ball through to Demonte. Demonte dragged the ball past the goalkeeper and pounded the ball into the empty net putting the Student Princes up 1-0.

The referee whistled a hand ball foul in the Heidelberg penalty area in the 24th minute, resulting in the spot kick for Capital. Daniel Bundschuh was on hand to narrowly sneak the attempt past a diving Jake Kress to level the score at one a piece.

The 1-1 score would last through the halftime interval. Capital started the second half on the press and scored the go-ahead goal in the 49th minute. Trevor Collins scooped the ball over the Berg defense where Luke Morais was on hand to blast past Kress into the far post.

Capital turned to a primarily defensive approach after the Morais goal. Heidelberg out-shot the Crusaders 7-1 over the final 40 minutes, but could not find the equalizer.

Kress finished the match with three saves. The Student Princes forced the Capital net minder into four saves on the afternoon.

Heidelberg hits the road on Saturday, October 6 for a 7 p.m. kickoff away to Marietta College.
