Volleyball sinks Kenyon, 3-1

Box Score

TIFFIN -- Back on its home court for the first time in over two weeks, the Heidelberg University volleyball team defeated Kenyon College, 3-1, on Thursday evening. With the win, Heidelberg improves to 9-8 on the year as the Ladies drop to 10-5.

The Taylors had quite a day for the Student Princes. Junior Taylor Arbogast led the offense with 14 kills and 19 digs. Sophomore Taylor Valentine finished the match with 12 kills and a career-high 20 digs.

After trailing for the first half of the opening set, the Berg took the lead with a powerful cross court kill from Valentine. A block by HU made the score 15-13, forcing Kenyon to call a timeout. Back to back aces from Arbogast and a Valentine kill pushed the lead to 18-13. A kill from senior Rachel Stroski sealed the 25-20 win for the Berg.

A 5-0 run midway through set two propelled the Ladies to a 25-16 win.

Kenyon's attempts to chip away at the Berg lead were silenced in the third set. A kill by Arbogast along with Kenyon errors kept the score in favor of the home team. The Berg won the third set on a kill by junior Laura Schrag. The Ladies attacked at just a -.018 clip in the set.

With the score knotted at 19, Valentine ignited the Heidelberg offense with a kill that hit the back line and followed it up with two straight service aces. A Kenyon blocking error finished the match with a 25-20 win for the Berg.

Schrag chipped in 11 kills and five blocks. Rachel Raimondo (17), Sydney Moore (13), and Anna McNabb (13) all added double-digit digs. McNabb tallied 46 assists in the win.

After attacking at a stout .375 percentage in the first set, HU attacked at just a .075 clip in the second. The  Berg closed out the match attacking at a .203 mark.

Heidelberg committed 10 service errors in the match.

"I was really proud of the way our girls played against a tough Kenyon team," said head coach Jason Miller. "We had to move some kids around and they played at a high level tonight."

The Student Princes commence OAC play on Saturday when they host Muskingum University (12-3, 0-1). Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
