Box Score 2 BLUFFTON, Ohio -- The 2017 Heidelberg Volleyball team salvaged an opening-day split at the Bluffton University Sommer Center Spiketacular. HU fell to Hanover, 3-1, before a resounding sweep of Wheaton in the second.
GAME ONE: Hanover and Heidelberg traded 25-23 wins in the first two sets, with the Panthers winning the first. Hanover cruised to victory with 25-16 and 25-20 wins.
Offensively, senior Rachel Stroski attacked at a team-high .357 clip, notching 12 kills. Taylor Valentine led the team with 14 kills. Morgan Strenk, Laura Schrag and Mya Morris all saw plenty of opportunities.
Sophomore Anna McNabb was the primary setter for Jason Miller's squad. She tallied 39 assists in the loss.
Defensively, senior Rachel Raimondo amassed 28 digs. Sydney Moore was close behind with a 22-dig effort in the opener.
GAME TWO: Heidelberg won 25-20, 25-21 and 26-24 in the rebound win over Wheaton.
Stroski led the attack once again with 10 kills, attacking at a .400 clip. Schrag added nine kills in the sweep for the Berg.
McNabb tallied 35 assists in the victory. Raimondo led the defense once again for the Berg, amassing 25 digs. Three other players reached double-digit digs in the win -- Moore, McNabb, and Taylor Arbogast. Moore picked up 16 digs as McNabb tallied 14. Arbogast chipped in with 10.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: All-time, Heidelberg is now 5-3 vs. Hanover and 3-2 against Wheaton (Ill.).
Heidelberg has not started 0-2 since the 2004 season.
The Berg did not make one receiving error in the game two win over Wheaton.
UP NEXT: The Spiketacular continues on Saturday. Heidelberg will face Adrian at 10 a.m. and DePauw at 2 p.m.
