Box Score TIFFIN -- A pair of second half goals broke the hearts of the Heidelberg University men's soccer team, as they fell to Capital University 3-2. A 2-1 lead at the half evaporated for the Student Princes, as the team drops to 10-4-1 (3-4-1 OAC). The Crusaders improve to 10-6-1 (4-3-1 OAC).
It took 63 seconds for Heidelberg to get on the board. Sophomore Gaerid Littler netted his first goal of the season off a cross from classmate Rodrigo Meza. Meza found Littler inside the 6-yard box for the score.
Capital evened the match at 1 with a goal in the fifth minute. Daniel Bundschuh slipped a shot past HU keeper Jake Kress into the lower right 90.
Alex Aviles tallied his second goal of the season to push the Student Princes out in front. A beautiful cross from senior Alexis Mendoza was headed in by Aviles in the 40th minute.
Clinging to a one goal lead, the Crusaders tied the game at 2 with a Heidelberg own goal.
Trevor Collins provided the visitors with the game-winning goal in the 69th minute. Collins's shot ricocheted off the post and in for a 3-2 advantage.
Heidelberg pressured the Capital defense for the remainder of the match, but could not find the equalizer. HU outshot Capital, 15-7.
Kress notched two saves in the match.
The Student Princes conclude regular season play with a matchup against Wilmington on Saturday. The game marks Senior Day for Garrett McAfee, Anthony Raimondo, Alexis Mendoza, and Christian Kiesel. Kickoff at Hidden Valley is slated for 2 p.m.
