Box Score 2 HAVERFORD, Penn. – The Heidelberg University volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Haverford Invitational. The Student Princes defeated Clark University 3-0 before falling to Mary Washington 3-1.

With the score knotted at 14 in the first set, the Berg scored four straight points to distance themselves from the Cougars. A kill by Parker gave HU some breathing room as they pulled ahead 22-16. Attack errors and a service error by Clark gave the Tricolor the win in set one.
After trailing 2-0 in the second set, the Berg pulled ahead and never trailed again for the rest of the set. Two kills apiece from Janessa Scott and Laura Schrag gave the Berg a five point advantage. HU remained in control throughout the set, before an attack error by Clark aided the Berg to a 25-19 win.
The third set looked similar to the second for the Tricolor, as they gained control early and never looked back. Junior Rachel Stroski hammered home a kill to seal the three set victory for the Student Princes.
Parker led Heidelberg, finishing the match with nine kills. Mariah Sullivan chipped in with six kills of her own. Karlie DiRuzza tallied 24 assists and eight digs, while libero Rachel Raimondo recorded a game-high 16 digs.
MARY WASHINGTON 3 HEIDELBERG 1
Three straight aces from Morgan Strenk gave the Berg a 21-16 lead in the first set. Both teams traded points for the remainder of the set. A kill by Schrag helped HU win set one 25-21.
A back and forth second set ended with four straight UMW points. The Berg tied the score at 21 with a Schrag kill, but two UMW kills and two HU errors gave Mary Washington a 25-21 win.
UMW took set three by a score of 25-15. The Berg was unable to come back after Mary Washington started the set with six straight points.
Similar to set two, the fourth set had plenty of back and forth action. Trailing 23-21, HU tied the score at 23 thanks to a kill by Parker and a UMW attack error. A block from Mary Washington's Savannah Powers and Leslie Walters ended the set with a 26-24 score.
Two HU players had double-digit kills -- Parker (11) and Strenk (10). DiRuzza recorded up 37 assists and Raimondo picked up another game-high 17 digs.

The volleyball team returns to action tomorrow as they continue play at the Haverford Invitational. The first match of the day is scheduled for 10 a.m. against MIT. At noon, HU will take on host Haverford for their final match of the weekend.
