Box Score DEFIANCE -- Morgan Strenk and Sarah Parker each had 13 kills to lead the Heidelberg University volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Defiance College. The win moves the Berg to 7-3 as Defiance drops to 2-6.
The Berg jumped out to a 6-0 lead in set one, thanks to two services aces from Megan Mills. A kill from Parker gave the Berg a 25-17 win in the first set.
In the second set, the Yellow Jackets scored five straight points to give themselves a 5-0 lead. The Berg attacked at a mere .026 clip in the set, which allowed for Defiance to gain momentum. The Yellow Jackets took the set 25-17.
With the score knotted at 22 in the third set, kills by Strenk, Parker, and Mariah Sullivan propelled HU to a 25-22 win.
Six of Strenk's 13 kills came in the fourth set, in which the Tricolor took by a score of 25-18. Sullivan put the exclamation point on the victory with a kill to end the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Junior Rachel Raimondo tallied a career-high 34 digs in the match.
HU ended the match with six service aces, two coming from Mills. Strenk, Sullivan, Raimondo, and Taylor Valentine each tacked on an ace. Sullivan also chipped in with 11 kills.
Senior setter Karlie DiRuzza recorded 37 assists.
Heidelberg finished the match with an attacking percentage of .175, their second lowest of the season. The Yellow Jackets attacked at a .127 clip.
UP NEXT
HU will travel to Springfield for the Wittenberg Fall Classic September 16-17. The team will play a 6 p.m. game against Calvin College on Friday.
