Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- A second half surge led the Heidelberg University men's basketball team to a 70-53 win over Otterbein University on Saturday afternoon. The Student Princes outscored the Cardinals in the paint, 36-18.
With the win, the Student Princes improve to 4-2, 1-0 OAC. Otterbein drops to 2-4, 0-1 OAC.
Junior Chris Moxley paced the Berg with 13 points. Shane Lee added 10 points off the bench.
With 7:36 left in the first half, the Cardinals held an 18-13 lead, their largest lead of the game. At the other end, Michael Davis would hit a 3-pointer, cutting the deficit to two.
The Student Princes would go on to score the last seven points of the first half. Free throws from Kiere Bennie and Prince Benson, along with jumpers from Benson and Michael Schuller would give the Berg a 29-25 lead at the break.
After both teams struggled early in the second half, Heidelberg began to dominate the paint. Eight of their first nine baskets after halftime were layups. A jumper and a layup from Myron Prewitt gave HU a 10-point lead with 14:43 remaining in the second half. The Berg would hold on to a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
With seven minutes to play, a jumper by Schuller and a three by Lee pushed the Heidelberg lead to a comfortable 15 points.
GAME NOTES
Heidelberg shot 44% from the floor compared to Otterbein's 29%.
Both teams struggled from behind the arc. HU shot 25% (6 of 24) while the Cardinals were 13% from three (3 of 24).
The Student Princes won despite hitting just 14-of-22 free throws.
