Men's soccer season ends in OAC Tournament

MARIETTA, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University men's soccer team dropped a double overtime match to Marietta College 1-0 on Monday afternoon in the first round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament.

The loss ends HU's season with a 7-10-1 record. Marietta improves to 11-8-1.

The Pioneers scored their lone goal of the match in the 106th minute. Taylor Reasoner sent a headed cross to the right side of the 6 yard box. Cole Pappas one touched the ball into the upper 90 past HU goalkeeper Jake Kress.

Heidelberg had a golden goal opportunity early in the second overtime. Isaac Bwayo got past Marietta goalkeeper Tyler sholl, but the strike went wide left of the goal.

The Student Princes outshot the Pioneers in the contest 10-7. Rodrigo Meza tallied a game-high three shots.

Kress made three saves in the loss. Marietta's Sholl recorded three saves in the clean sheet.

Head coach Pat Svihlik on the game: "My quys never quit today and we were very organized."

Svihlik on moving forward: "I am very excited about the young men that are in this program and where we are going."

This was the fifth straight season Heidelberg has made the six-team OAC Tournament.

Marietta moves on to face No. 1 seeded John Carroll on Wednesday.
