Box Score 2 HOLLAND, Mich. -- The Heidelberg University volleyball team swept a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon, finishing the Midwest Invitational with a 3-1 record. Senior Sarah Parker was named to the all-tournament team after tallying 62 kills on the weekend.
Heidelberg improved to 16-8 on the season.
HEIDELBERG 3 CLARKSON 1
Four Student Princes finished with 10+ kills in the first match on Saturday, a 3-1 win over Clarkson -- 25-18, 22-25, 25-20, 25-17. Parker led the way with 19 kills, followed by Morgan Strenk's 17 kills. Janessa Scott (12) and Mariah Sullivan (11) were the others.
Karlie DiRuzza controlled the offense with 57 assists.
Defensively, five players tallied 10+ digs: Rachel Raimondo (34), Megan Mills (26), Sydney Moore (19), DiRuzza and Strenk (11 apiece).
HEIDELBERG 3 No. 17 ELMHURST 2
The Tricolor battled back to upset the nationally-ranked Blue Jays – 25-11, 20-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-13.
The Student Princes trailed 9-3 in the decisive fifth set. Two aces by Strenk helped key a 6-0 run that tied the match. Two more aces, this time by Raimondo, helped HU take control of the match, which was capped by a kill by Scott.
Parker and Scott did the damage for the Student Princes, tallying 21 and 20 kills apiece. Strenk contributed 10 kills in the thriller. DiRuzza notched 52 assists.
Raimondo, the libero, led the defensive effort with 33 digs. Mills (18), Moore (12) and DiRuzza (10) aided in the effort.
