Box Score TIFFIN – The Heidelberg University men's basketball dropped a 95-78 contest to No. 4 John Carroll University at home on Wednesday evening. Four Student Princes finished in double figures in the losing effort.
The loss set Heidelberg back to an even 9-9 on the season, 4-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Blue Streaks remained perfect at 18-0, 11-0 in conference.
Freshman Myron Prewitt tallied a career-high 17 points and a game-high nine rebounds to lead HU. Isaac Everette added 16, Chris Moxley had 11 points and Kiere Bennie contributed 10 points in defeat.
A slow start for The Berg allowed the visitors to get out to a 21-7 lead with 11:16 left in the first half. Their lead ballooned to as many as 16 before the Tricolor began to chip away. A jumper by Andrew Grothouse with 3:08 remaining brought HU to within seven at 36-29. JCU led 42-32 at the break.
The Student Princes came out on a 13-5 run to start the second period and trailied 47-45 with 16:34 remaining. Heidelberg was never able to tie or take the lead, despite trailing by one or two on multiple occasions.
Midway through the period, the Blue Streaks went on a run that helped them create a sizeable cushion. HU was able to trim the deficit to within nine twice, but John Carroll continued to pull away for the 95-78 win.
The loss is the third straight for Heidelberg, their longest skid of year.
David Linane had 27 points for John Carroll while four others reached double figures.
Heidelberg hits the road on Saturday, traveling to Wilmington College (3-13, 2-9 OAC) on Saturday. Tipoff with the Quakers is slated for 3 p.m.
