Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University men's soccer team battled host Wittenberg University and Mother Nature to a 1-1 draw on a rainy Saturday evening. After conceding an own goal in the first half, Heidelberg (1-0-1) converted a penalty kick late to draw even.
FIRST HALF
The Heidelberg men controlled possession for much of the first half before a misplay gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute. After a Tiger foul was called in HU's defensive third, an innocuous pass back to Alex Archambeau in goal skipped past him and trickled into the net.
For the second straight game, the Student Princes were held scoreless in the opening 45 minutes. HU's best opportunity came moments before the own goal. The ball was chipped into the penalty area and was corralled by Isaac Bwayo. With the goalkeeper off his line, Bwayo shot toward the back post. His effort was headed away by a Tiger defender.
SECOND HALF
Porus Shroff had a chance at an equalizer in the 54th minute, but his shot sailed high. The opportunity was created by Jay Sato, so knifed his way through the Tiger defense and drew four defenders to him before crossing the ball across to Shroff.
In the 66th minute, a restart from 30 yards out by Andres Isea rang off the crossbar and ricocheted away.
As they did in the first half, the Tricolor controlled two-thirds of the field but had trouble maintaining possession into the attacking third.
In the 81st minute, Chris Koczak converted a penalty kick after Bwayo was pulled down in the penalty area. The goal brought Koczak's total to three for the season.
OVERTIME
Early in the first period of overtime, Wittenberg had the better opportunities. Off of two restarts, the Tigers missed wide – once on each side of Archambeau's net -- on headers in the penalty area.
Wittenberg had another chance in the second period of overtime, again narrowly missing a header. This one – in the 106th minute – came off of a throw in.

Heidelberg went into overtime four times in 2014, finishing 2-0-2. Heidelberg hasn't lost in overtime since a 5-4 defeat at Ohio Northern in 2013.
The game was delayed over 90 minutes at the start because of the Wittenberg women's soccer match running long. There was a brief stoppage in the second overtime when a dog ran onto the field.
The Bergs battled to a 2-2 tie a year ago in a match that was also delayed by severe weather.
