Box Score BLUFFTON – The Heidelberg University volleyball team picked up their first victory of the season on Friday, knocking off Alma 3-1 in their opening match of the Sommer Center Spiketacular, hosted by Bluffton University. The Student Princes got off to a slow start, but three consecutive set wins propelled the Berg to the victory.
In the first set, Heidelberg went back and forth at the beginning but fell behind late and was unable to catch up in a 25-19 setback.
From that point on, the Student Princes turned things on as they rolled over the Scots in the next two sets, winning 25-13 and 25-16.
In the fourth set, Heidelberg took an early lead, but Alma was able to get things knotted at 14. The Student Princes went on a run of their own to finish out the set, pulling away to clinch the match 25-20.
Sarah Parker and Jamie Kluding led the attack for the Berg with 11 kills each while Karlie DiRuzza had 35 assists.
Rachel Raimondo picked up 19 digs in the victory while Kluding and Megan Mills had 12 each.
Heidelberg (1-1) will be back in action tomorrow as they have a pair of matches in Bluffton. Their first match of the day will be at 10 a.m. again Bluffton University while a noon match against Augustana will follow.
