Box Score TIFFIN -- On a cool day in Tiffin, the Heidelberg University men's soccer team fought to a 1-1 draw with visiting Hiram College. Heavy rains moved the game from the grass at Hidden Valley to the turf at Hoernemann Stadium. The teams scored minutes apart in the first half before falling scoreless for the remainder.
The draw snapped a two-match losing streak for the Student Princes.
FIRST HALF
The Student Princes got on the board first off Isaac Bwayo's first goal of the season. In the 25th minute, the junior was able to hammer home a long ball played in from the midfield. The shot deflected off Hiram netminder, Matt Sacher, giving the Tricolor a 1-0 lead.
The lead was short lived. After a tremendous save deflected over the goal by Heidelberg keeper Jake Kress, a corner kick opportunity was set up for the Terriers. Richie Webb served a ball into the box that was headed into the net by Tanner Mathews. The equalizer came in the 27th minute of the first half.
Hiram got plenty of open looks in the first half, but Kress was able to keep the score even with many spectacular saves.
SECOND HALF
Both teams had great chances to put themselves ahead in the second half. The Berg's best opportunity when Chris Kozack took a shot from the left side. After a keeper substitution at halftime, Chris Lindemeyer was just able to get a hold of the ball and haul it in for the save.
The Terriers also had an opportunity with just under two minutes to play. Zac Cairns broke through the Heidelberg defense, allowing for a breakaway opportunity. Jake Kress once again came up big for the Berg, making a sliding play to break up any chance for the game winner.
OVERTIME
With just under five minutes to play in the second overtime, the Student Princes had an opportunity for the golden goal. Freshman Sebastian Calderon was able to settle the ball as part of a scuffle in the box. Calderon got off a shot with his left foot that was blocked by the shins of the Hiram keeper.
The Terriers were unable to capitalize on a pair of corner kicks late in the overtime period.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

NOTABLE QUOTES
Heidelberg head coach Ryan Carruth on the afternoon's performance: "I thought it was a tale of two halves ... We're talking about trying to put together 90-minute performances, and the first half was probably our worst half of the season ... We made some adjustments at halftime and we came out in the second half and I think our guys played brilliantly ... In the second half and overtime, we were excellent and played our way ... We need to be better for 90 minutes."
