Box Score NEW CONCORD – The Heidelberg University men's basketball team picked up its first conference victory of the season with a 62-56 win at Muskingum University on Saturday. The Student Princes won despite shooting 37.1% from the floor and 22.2% from distance.
The win pushed Heidelberg's record to 4-3, 1-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Muskingum, under first-year head coach Travis Schwab, fell to 3-5, 0-2.
James Hanley had all four of the Student Prince 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 14 points. Myron Prewitt and Kiere Bennie each had 10 points to help pace the offense.
Maurice Hunter had a career high nine rebounds in the win.
The Student Princes led by as many as 13 in the first half and took a 30-20 lead into intermission.
The Muskies crept back into the game midway through the second half, getting as close as five on several occasions. Heidelberg maintained the lead by hitting 7-of-8 from the foul line in the game's final minute.
Muskingum was 1-of-26 from three (3.8%). Jarrell Marsh had a game-high 15 points in the losing effort.
The Student Princes bench outscored Muskingum's bench 40-15.
Heidelberg returns to action on Wednesday. They will play the front half of a men's-women's doubleheader at home. The men face non-conference Carnegie Mellon (4-1) at 5:30 p.m. and the women host Mount Union at 7:30 p.m.
