MARIETTA – The Heidelberg University men's soccer team got back on track on Saturday, October 25, scoring in overtime to defeat Marietta on the road. Both defense stood tall until the overtime period when the Student Princes broke through eight minutes into the overtime period to bring home the victory.

The first period was even throughout as both teams recorded six shots and they entered halftime in a scoreless draw.

Heidelberg started to take control of the match in the second half, controlling possession and taking 15 shots compared to just five for the Pioneers (5-10-0, 3-4-0 OAC), but they were unable to score, and the game went into overtime.

The Student Princes picked up in the overtime period where they left off in the second half, controlling the ball, and it paid off in the 98th minute when Hamid Shariff crossed a ball into the box which was kicked into the back of the net by Chris Koczak, giving the Berg a much-needed win with the golden goal.

Tyler Eoff led the attack for the Student Princes on the day, recording an impressive seven shots with three of those coming on goal. Andres Isea, Alexis Mendoza, and Ryan Homoki all registered four each.

Goalkeeper Matthew Stevens didn't have to do much in the match, picking up just one save, but it was good enough for another clean sheet, his seventh of the season.

The Student Princes improved to 8-6-3 on the season with the win, including a 4-2-1 mark in OAC play.  They will return home for their next match to take on Capital.  That match is scheduled to kick off at 4:00 p.m. at Hidden Valley Soccer Complex on Tuesday, October 28.
