ADA, Ohio – Following a sweep of Saint Mary's College and a five-set loss to Ohio Northern, the 2013 Heidelberg University volleyball team finished the opening weekend of the season with a 2-1 record.

Senior Amber Welfle (Norwalk/St. Paul) led the Student Princes against St. Mary's with 18 kills and seven blocks. Welfle hit with a .471 percentage. Stephanie Romie (Anna) had 19 assists and eight blocks while Jubilee Haase recorded 17 digs. In the sweep (25-22, 30-28, 25-22), Heidelberg held St. Mary's to a .101 attack percentage.

In the second game, Heidelberg (2-1) and OAC rival Ohio Northern squared off in a non-conference matchup. After dropping the first two sets, The Berg roared back to take the next two. The Polar Bears won the fifth set to take the match (25-18, 27-25, 20-25, 23-25, 15-8).

Four Student Princes finished with double-digits in kills, led by Welfle's 19. Jamie Kluding (Norwalk/Monroeville) and Sarah Parker (Sycamore/Mohawk) each had 10 kills.

Romie finished with 11 kills, 35 assists and 14 digs, her first collegiate triple-double.

Haase notched 24 digs to lead Heidelberg.

"We had our opportunities today against ONU," said 14-year head coach Jason Miller. "We just didn't stay aggressive in the fifth set."

The Student Princes will return to the court on Friday at the Charlie Wrublewski Tournament in Cincinnati, hosted by Mt. St. Joseph.
