Volleyball sweeps Muskies, vaults into first place

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – With a 3-0 sweep of Muskingum University, the Heidelberg University volleyball team took over sole possession of first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference.  Victoria Wiggins had a career-high 11 kills for the Student Princes, who moved to 7-0 in the OAC. 

Amber Welfle coupled eight kills with 14 digs and five aces in the winning effort.  Sarah Parker added nine kills and two blocks. 

Heidelberg won the first two sets handily, 25-15 and 25-12, before nabbing a close third set 25-22. 

Grace Samenuk had a team high 17 digs and Jamie Kluding added 11. 

Senior Alexa Frank had 23 assists. 

Otterbein defeated Mount Union on Saturday, which makes Heidelberg the only unbeaten team in the OAC. 

With two games left to play in the regular season, the Student Princes have already clinched a home match in the OAC Quarterfinals.  Heidelberg finishes at John Carroll Tuesday and home against Mount Union on Saturday. 

Tuesday's match at John Carroll is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
