Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio - Heidelberg volleyball earned themselves another thrilling come from behind victory against Ohio Athletic Conference foe, Ohio Northern in front of a home crowd in Seiberling Gymnasium. The Polar Bears led 2-1 after three sets but the Student Princes rallied to take the match, 3-2 and remain unbeaten in conference play.
The Berg took the first set, 25-20 before dropping the second and third, 16-25 and 21-25. The Berg rallied behind the efforts of standout freshman Sarah Parker and veteran outside hitter Amber Welfle to take the next two sets, 25-23 and 15-6.
"I'm extremely proud of our girls, not of the way they played, but of the way they handled adversity and stepped up," said head coach Jason Miller. "That's the sign of a very mature team - and that's really exciting to see."
Welfle and Parker played well the entire evening but came alive in the fifth and final set. Welfle served for 11 of the Berg's 15 points while Parker claimed five kills in the fifth set alone. Parker also assisted on the game winning block with junior Sarah Botts.
Parker finished with a game-high 19 kills accompanied by four digs, two solo blocks and three block assists. Welfle tallied 18 kills and a team high 21 digs in the victory over Ohio Northern.
Senior Alexa Frank and junior Stephanie Romie teamed up for a combined 45 of the Berg's 51 assists. Frank finished with 28 assists and eight digs while Romie collected 17 assists, five kills and three digs.
Defensively, three Student Princes finished behind Welfle in double digits. Freshman Megan Mills along with juniors Jubilee Haase and Grace Samenuk finished with 12, 11 and 13 digs respectively.
With their critical win over the Polar Bears, the Berg moves above .500 once more at 14-13 and remains undefeated in the Ohio Athletic Conference at 6-0 with just three conference matchups remaining.
The Heidelberg ladies will travel to New Concord, Ohio to take on the Fighting Muskies of Muskingum University on Saturday, October 26. Action from Muskingum is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
